Artist's Comments
Re-posting for those who haven't seen it. PLEASE READ! Its important!
To mis-cat admins: I am aware Artisan Crafts must be made by the poster, however, I am trying to show people that much of what I see posted in jewelry is in fact not made by the people posting it and I feel they should be exposed. I have seen an increasing number of "jewelry artists" posting items they have made where they are obviously using imported miniatures. I bought these (very cheaply) while on vacation to make a point. They may be very detailed, but they are imports. Artists who claim to have made items like this are more than likely deceiving you and selling imported trinkets like these. They are NOT durable. The jewelry will not last. You will be disappointed. It saddens me to see people taken, as I know jewelry made from these would break almost instantly because it was never intended for such a use. As it is, I left them in their packaging and the stems broke off most of the cherries before I even had them home. The thin clay parts and glass dishes are so thin and delicate, they would be fine as doll house decor, but using it to make jewelry will surely lead to disappointment. Anyway, this is just to inform buyers: I make all my clay jewelry, and because I am careful to make sure each piece is thick enough to be reasonably durable, it will last much longer than this kind of junk. Beware of chintzy imports! I also see many other artists who do actually hand sculpt their items, and they also appear to be more durable in nature, such as little fimo pies and donuts. Talk to artists before you buy! The only way you can be sure you are getting what you are paying for is to be an educated consumer, other wise you open yourself to being sold junk at a premium that could have bought a nice piece of jewelry. Anyway, sorry for being rant-ish. I just feel that people selling this sort of thing is deceptive and could lead to consumers thinking all fimo jewelry is this brittle and weak...it isn't! You just need to be aware of what you buy! Edit: Just an additional FYI, the majority of these are made in Thailand. If you Google the phrase "Thai miniatures" and add in either cakes, cookies, food, sweets or desserts you can find various other examples. Here are more examples: [link] [link] Also, notice the prices: buy 50 pieces and pay only 81 cents per cake! And you get exactly what you pay for at that price...which isn't suitable for jewelry! |

Why don't you ever dress in front of Pokemon???
They might Pi-ka-chu!!!!!!
However I agree that the quality is poor and the artists should be ashamed to sell them.
I go through the trouble of putting all of my handmade charms in a bag and throwing the bag down my driveway to make sure they won't break from impact. People wear jewelry, drop jewelry, lose jewelry, tug jewelry, and pass jewelry around to be admired by their friends.
There is no reason to make a delicate wearable, it's just insulting and rude!
